Still Waters Run Deep
2016 | Ceramic glaze and stoneware clay | 11.5"x3.5"
Instructed to create a self portrait "vessel", I created this self portrait ceramic vase. The outside of the vase, pretty and detailed, represents how I feel people might perceive me. The window on the front of the vase invites the viewer to take a closer look to see inside where a demon head is gazing back through the window representing inner struggles that others may not see. An inscription lines the inner lip of the vase, half of a quote by Friedrich Nietzsche that holds great importance to me. "And if you gaze long enough into an abyss, the abyss will gaze back into you." As the viewer reads the inscription, they are gazing into the vessel once more. This vessel might not hold much water, but it certainly could hold light. Made with the Coil building method.
The Way the Truth The Life
2016 | Unglazed stoneware clay | 11.5"x8"
Part of my ceramic architecture series. Another piece inspired by the game Dark Souls. The pews are movable. The squares are close to 1inx1in, perfect for table top gaming.

Beauty Will Decay
2016 | Ceramic glaze and stoneware clay | 5"x7"x5"
Fascinated by buildings that once were, Lisa aims to portay a sense of deteriorating elegance through this piece. Part of my ceramic architecture series. This piece focuses on the decay of "beauty" over time and age. What was once a beautiful architectural space has now fallen to the decay of time. The colors fade, the carvings weather, and the structure loses stability naturally as it ages. Inspired by Dark souls video games and Roman ruins.
