A Hop in Time
2023 | Mixed Media | 11"x14"
This piece is the first of a series of spirit animals exploring my spirituality and identity. This self portrait centers around a spiritual rabbit under an emerald clock reading 3:33, an important number and time to me and my birthstone for May. Rabbits are a reoccurring theme in much of my work already so this first choice was natural. The night sky and the fall foliage represents my best time and season of the year. The dreamcatcher/spider web is a reference to dreams and psychology as well as my fascination with spiders. The stained glass window behind the rabbit is my astrology placements. The four Roses under the rabbit represent important people on the left, and myself as the larger rose on the right. The Butterfly represents beautiful change, of which I believe anyone can make even the smallest differences. This piece represents my universe, reflecting one of my favorite George Orwell quotes “ One mind less, One world less.”.

The Flesh Reflects the Madness Within
2017 | Stoneware Clay, acrylic paint | 20"x11"x9"
Inspired by the carousel #35 at the St. Louis Six Flags, Lisa was obsessed with the tortured faces of the carousel horses since she first laid eyes on them. Sculpted with coil building technique.
Elegant Alien
2012 | Iron bas relief| 8"x8"
Elegant Alien was first sculpted out of clay, created a special mold for an iron pour, and cast out of reclaimed iron at a foundry. The original sculpted octopus was smooth, but the iron cast included some texture. Part of the reclaimed iron process can include some slag (a byproduct of smelting iron which can alter the appearance of your sculpt. In this piece, I think the slag enhanced the features of the piece. ( click on the image to zoom in). There is a silver vein running through the octopus's head. Octopuses are known for their intelligence which is why they can seem like alien to us, as their physical appearance is much different. There is also slag marks running across the octopus that implies movement, another characteristic of the octopus, known both as predator and prey, relying on the ability to cast illusion and swiftly act.
The Ram in the Room
2016 | Cardboard, tape | 4'x3.5'
♦Awarded the 2016 Boardroom award at St. Charles Community College
Best displayed in the corner of a room, the Ram in the Room casts a heavy presence. Whether felt as a nostalgia about childhood oversized stuffed animals, or a creepy imposing faceless creature with a slightly tilted head, is to the discretion of the viewer.
